Speaking on Saturday at the team's Hyatt Hotel base in Jacksonville, Keshi revealed that Echiejile needs more time to recover, in spite of the fact that the player certified himself fit on Saturday morning.
"Doctors have said he will need up to three weeks to recover from the muscle tear but we don’t have that type of time to play with so we have to replace him," Keshi said.
Omeruo on the other hand has been given the green light by the medics who expect him to recover in time for Nigeria's opening game against Iran on June 16.
Ejike Uzoenyi has already been lined up as Echiejile's replacement, after being dropped from the initial 30-man list.
The NFF leadership and world soccer governing body FIFA have already been informed of the change and are expected to effect it immediately
