According to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Osun State, Mr. Sunday Akere in a public press statement, the gesture is to commemorate the June 12, 1993, presidential election.
The election, won by the late Moshood Abiola, popularly known as MKO, was annulled by the Ibrahim Babangida military dictatorship.
Mr. Abiola was later imprisoned by the Sani Abacha junta. He died in prison in 1998. (NAN)
Meanwhile, Lagos State had also declared tomorrow as a work-free day.
According to the circular issued by Mrs. Oluseyi, the Head of Service in Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja Lagos. Governor Babatunde Fashola declared 12th June, 2014 as work free day in the state in honour of the 21st anniversary of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election.
Mrs. Oluseyi Williams said “in commemoration of June 12, 1993 as significant in the actualization of Democracy in
Nigeria, it is hereby notified for general information that His Excellency, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN, the Governor of Lagos State has approved
Thursday, 12th June, 2014 as a work free day”.
