The Nigeria Polytechnic Lecturers may resume strike on Friday due to
the failure of the Federal Government to fulfill their signed agreement.
Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP
in their 75th National Executive Council, NEC meeting held in Bida
Federal Polytechnic, Niger state on Saturday has announced that the Union will resume
their suspended nationwide strike on Friday 4th of October, 2013.
ASUP suspended their nationwide strike on 17th
of July after intervention by the lawmakers in their negotiation with the
federal Government. The Union will resume their suspended strike on Friday as a
result of insincerity of the Government to honor their agreement.
According to statement released
by the National Secretary of ASUP, Clement, “In view of the continued
insincerity of Government to honour the agreement reached with ASUP, NEC
resolves that the union will resume the suspended strike with effect from 4th October,
2013.
If ASUP
resume strike on Friday, then what will happen to Nigeria undergraduates with Academic
Union of Universities, ASUU still on strike? It means all the tertiary institutions
in Nigeria will soon be closedown.
The education system of the country is
collapsing and the Governments are just making unfulfilled agreement with the tertiary
institutions academics’ unions.
